Class 12: Score 90 percent, go to Oxford

Students who score 90 per cent or more for CBSE or ICSE Class 12 exams may be able to study at Oxford University from October 2013.
Oxford University vice-chancellor Professor Andrew Hamilton made the announcement while speaking at IIT-Kharagpur on March 24.
The news was welcomed by schools across the country. Students who have topped Class 12 exams for these boards will get direct entry in to undergraduate courses at Oxford but will have to sit for a qualifying test and an interview before the final selection.
The change in admission means that Indian students will no longer have to sit for their A Levels (another one year of study after Class 12) or any other international exam. There is no upper limit on the number of Indian students who can enroll in a course.
Some reports, however stated, that students who want to apply for Oxford University’s undergraduate science would have to sit for the Indian Institute of Technology entrance exam.
There will be a few scholarships available for students who are bright but are unable to pay the £15,000 (approximately Rs 1,220,270) tuition fees each year.
This is the first time in the university’s 915-year-old history that two Indian boards have been recognised.
