DU admissions - special assistance for northeast students

New Delhi: The Delhi University has planned to set up a dedicated help
desk this academic session for students from Northeast India who will
be seeking admission to the university.

Earlier, students from the northeastern Indian states had been helped
by volunteers from different student organizations from the northeast
as there was an absence of a nodal authority for providing assistance
to students.

A deputy dean of students' welfare was appointed last year by the
university fro aiding students from seven northeastern states. The
university has taken this further this year and decided to include
student counselor in the dean's office as well.

N. Santacruz is the deputy dean of students' welfare at the university
and has been given the responsibility of counseling and assisting
students from the northeastern states.

He said that this year the university will have northeast students as
counselors so that they are able to understand the problems faced by
students from this area. "We have already trained a counselor for
attending to the main queries who will be at the main help desk,"
Santacruz said.

Volunteering students from northeast states will also be present out
in the field during the admission procedure at the university.
Students will be provided information regarding admission and DU
measures by the office of the dean.

Santacruz further informed that he was working on getting around 40
teachers from across Delhi University colleges hailing from the
northeast to come forward and provide assistance to students.
