Listen to your inner voice - DU VC advises aspirants

New Delhi: Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh of the Delhi University (DU)
said to DU aspirants on Monday that they should learn to look within
and do what their heart tells them to do.

The VC was addressing DU aspirants fresh out of Class 12 at an Open
Day at the South Campus. His advice to students was to avoid the rat
race and pick a course that was of their choice and they really liked,
regardless of what the society told them.

Dinesh Singh, during his talk, gave the examples of famous
personalities such as Amitabh Bachchan, Naseeruddin Shah and Sachin
Tendulkar to prove that it was more important to love your career
rather than getting just a degree.

While launching the Facebook page for Delhi University. Singh said
that students should do what interests them and not just race for
colleges. "You should not look at the market or what people will say.
Nobody remembers which college Shastri and Kalam went to," he said.

He further added that Amitabh Bachchan had left his job and bungalow
in Calcutta to become an actor. "He had to sleep on a bench but he had
told me once that his inner voice kept urging him to get into acting.
You should listen to your inner voice too," Singh said.

Singh also gave the example of Naseeruddin Shah who had once told the
vice chancellor that no one had liked his acting during his days at
the National School of Drama but the actor had faith in himself. "I
ask you to believe in yourself," he said.

Giving the example of Sachin Tendulkar, who he says is more educated
than most graduates even though he has never been to college, the VC
said that the process of education never finishes. "Education
continues even after you have received your degree. We only put you on
that journey. There is a plethora of courses. Students should talk to
counselors and find out about them," he stated.

Promising better facilities for students at the varsity, the vice
chancellor assured them that any student could reach him directly if
they ever faced a problem. "I will be doing my best to reach out to
all students. I have already created an email ID and I will address
all queries on mail personally as far as it is possible," he said.

He further talked about the varsity"s Facebook page that was launched
and advised all students to join the page.

Later, the e-Open Days feature and e-brochure was also uploaded on the
university's website for outstation aspirants. The e-Open Days feature
will include presentations on colleges and the courses available there
as well as important information regarding the admission procedure.

The Open Days will be organized at the S.P. Jain Centre Auditorium at
South Campus on Tuesday and Wednesday as well.

750 information bulletins at South Campus and 401 forms for
registration of SC/ST candidates were sold by the university on
Monday.
