New Delhi: The Ambedkar University (AU) has announced that it will be
introducing three new courses at the undergraduate level in English,
Sociology and Mathematics this year.

The curriculum for undergraduate courses at the university is
according to the semester system.

The course in English will include epics, drama, non-fiction as well
as non-conventional topics like lyrics, songs and film in the
curriculum. Students will also be allowed to take optional courses for
extra credit that will be on culture studies, folklore and children's
literature.

The University was established by an act of the Delhi Government in
2007 and notified in 2008. Its campus is situated in Dwarka and
Kashmere Gate.

The new mathematics programme that will be introduced will include
areas such as statistics, probability, cryptography, numerical
analysis, etc. the core papers in the Sociology programme will be
sociological concepts, social institutions and sociological research.

The undergraduate courses at AU are flexible and do not require
students to begin studying their major subjects until the third
semester. Till then, the course involves basic foundation curriculum
in English and social sciences.

During the first two semesters, all undergraduate students study the
same syllabus. After they have made their choices, they can then
proceed to major in economics, history and psychology.

All courses have papers that talk about the India society,
constitution and citizenship. A four year BA (Honors) with dual major
is also offered by the university and a student can graduate with a BA
(Honors) in two subjects that they opt for.

The Ambedkar University is the first of its kind in the country to
implement such a flexible system of learning. At the post graduate
level, the university has introduced new courses in English,
Economics, History and Sociology.
