Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has written to the director of the institute,
Dr. R.C. Deka for asking him to discontinue the process of appointing
faculty on a contractual basis.
The institute had issued the advertisements for contractual
appointments in the neurosurgery and ENT departments on Friday and the
interviews had been scheduled to be conducted on May 20 for several
posts.
The letter to the AIIMS director had been written by the Progress
Medicos and Scientists Forum (PMSF). The spokesperson of the group,
who is also a senior faculty member, has said that appointments on
contractual basis provide no career security for the person and are
also a way of killing the institutes for the benefit of the private
sector.
The letter to the institute director says that the selection procedure
for regular appointments is already under way so there shouldn't be
any hurry for contractual appointments.
The letter further adds that the obvious motive behind the contractual
appointments is to unfairly place the contract appointees in an
advantageous position for regular selections.
The PMSF member further said that the process of appointing faculty on
a contractual basis did not provide future orientation to the people
who have been appointed. "Those who are in charge make the
appointments according to their own whims and fancies making the
contract appointees susceptible to exploitation, which leads to
professional dissatisfaction," the PMSF member said.
