Railway Minister Meets High Level German Delegation

The Union Minister of Railways Shri Mukul Roy and the Union Minister of State for Railways Shri K.H.Muniyappa along with Railway Board members met the visiting high level German delegation from areas of Railway Transport headed by Dr. Peter Ramsauer, German Federal Minister of Transport, Building and Urban Development here today. 

Speaking on the occasion, the Railway Minister Shri Mukul Roy said that India and Germany have strong cooperation and friendship in the field of Railway transport. Shri Roy said that Indian Railways and DBAG, German Railways had a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cooperation from 2006 to 2009. A fresh MOU between the two Railways is presently also under finalization. Referring to the past association, the Railway Minister said that the German companies have earlier been involved in the procurement of LHB coaches, signalling equipment etc. 

Highlighting the focus areas as enshrined in Indian Railways Vision-2020 document, Shri Mukul Roy pointed out that the document has an ambitious plan on safety improvement, modernisation and capacity augmentation. He said that the major activities to be undertaken include safety, Train Protection and Warning System, high speed, speed upgradation on existing network, station development, dedicated freight corridors, logistics parks, Public Private Partnership etc. The Railway Minister hoped for active participation by German companies in Indian Railways’ endeavours to achieve the goals of Vision-2020.
