Biennial Election to the Council of States from the State of Jharkhand


The term of office of two members of the Council of States elected from the State of Jharkhand was to expire on 2nd April, 2012 due to the retirement of Sh. Surendrajeet Singh Ahluwalia and  Ms. Mabel Rebello. On the recommendation of the Commission, (Please see Commission’s Proceedings dated 30thMarch 2012, forwarded to the President of India, hosted on Commission’s Website under the head “Current issues:-Rescinding the Notification of Biennial elections to Rajya Sabha from the State of Jharkhand”) the Notification to hold the Biennial election to the Council of States from Jharkhand on 30th March, 2012 was rescinded by the President of India vide notification  dated 31st March, 2012.
               The Election Commission has now decided to hold the said Biennial Election to the Council of States from Jharkhand anew for the purpose of filling the said vacancies. The aforesaid Biennial Election will be held in accordance with the following programme :-
