New Dhaula Kuan Metro station to aid DU students

New Delhi: Thanks to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the
problem persistently faced by Delhi University (DU) students
especially those who go to the South Campus is about to be solved.

A Metro station is being planned to be constructed at Dhaula Kuan on
the proposed 55-km-long stretch of corridor that connect Mukundpur
with Yamuna Vihar.

The new corridor that has been proposed is specially being built
keeping in mind to a great extent students of the Delhi University.
The DMRC had conducted a survey that had revealed that the large
number of people who would benefit from the corridor would be DU
students.

The DMRC revealed that 35% of Delhi Metro's users fall between the age
group of 18 and 24 and 50% fall between the age group of 25 to 35. A
large portion of these Metro commuters are students.

Sources have said that when the Dhaula Kuan Metro Station will be
operational, the Delhi Metro's earnings from students will show a
sharp increase as they would register thousands of university goers.

Due to a lack of Metro connectivity, thousands of university students
were forced to commute between the North Campus and the South Campus
via buses that usually take around one to one and a half hours to
reach.

Anuj Dayal, spokesperson for the DMRC said that once the proposed
corridor becomes operational, the distance between the North Campus
and South Campus will be covered within a time period of only 35
minutes. "There will be 18 Metro stations connecting the two
campuses," he said.

The new Metro station at Dhaula Kuan will be built in front of the
Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College and will be connected with Line 2 that
also connect Gurgaon with Jahangirpuri via the INA Metro station. This
new station will also be an interchange one.

The stations at INA and Dhaula Kuan will be connected through three
more stations at Moti Bagh, Bhikaji Cama Place and Sarojini Nagar. The
Bhikaji Cama Place and Sarojini Nagar stations will be underground
ones and the Moti Bagh station will be elevated.

DMRC also informed that the new station at Dhaula Kuan would be one of
the most important and busiest stations of the Delhi Metro as it would
mostly be used by a large number of university students.
