Three MPs agree to take student interns

Chennai: Three members of the Lok Sabha on Saturday said they are
willing to take students as interns so that they can get first hand
experience of parliament's functioning.

The three - Hansraj Gangaram Ahir of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),
Anandrao Adsul of the Shiv Sena, and S.S. Ramasubbu of the Congress -
agreed to the suggestion made by the Founder of Prime Point Foundation
K. Srinivasan to take five student interns every year.

The MPs announced their decision at the function organized by the NGO
to honour the lawmakers for their performance in the 15th Lok Sabha.

Ahir was honoured for his overall performance of participating in 70
debates, introducing 17 private member bills and asking 499 questions.
His total tally is 586.

Adsul ranks second with 571 - 23 debates, 11 private member bills and
545 questions (545).

S.S. Ramasubbu scored a tally of 532 with 60 debates and 472 questions (472).

According to Srinivasan, the Department of Humanities and Social
Sciences (DHSS) of Indian Institute of Technology-Madras is keen to
depute its students as interns under MPs. IANS
