Vocational education programme soon - Sibal

New Delhi: Emphasizing on the need for introducing skillful and
resourceful courses for development, Human Resources Development
Minister Kapil Sibal on Friday said that a vocational educational
programme will be launched soon.

The programme - National Vocational Qualification Framework, is for
students of Class 8-12. It will be organized in collaboration with the
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Sibal said on the
sidelines of the seventh Assocham International Educational Summit
here.

"Colleges and universities in the country need to develop specialized
courses as institutes in India are not producing skilled graduates who
can be employed in industries and factories," said Sibal.

Speaking on the need for foreign investment in the education sector,
the minister said that it the global need to collaborate with foreign
companies in this regard.

"In addition, we need to work together with the private sector for a
flexible education system in India as such a move will consequently
result in efficient management of education services in the country,"
said Sibal.

"In order to be a developed nation, India needs to increase the
current gross enrollment ratio. I'll increase the gross enrollment
ratio to 30 percent by 2010 (from the current 16 percent), that's my
task," said Sibal. IANS
