Examination (AIEEE) 2011 was revealed to have been leaked on Sunday,
on the day the examination was to be conducted.
The AIEEE is the country's largest engineering entrance examination
and conducted for admissions to more than 26,000 seats at the National
Institutes of Technology and other central as well as state
engineering school.
The question paper leak led to the paper being delayed by three hours,
much to the hassle of over 12 lakh engineering aspirants all over the
country who had to appear for the examination.
The Central Board of Secondary Education had been informed by the
Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh Police that the question
paper for the test had been leaked and sold for Rs.6 lakh per copy.
The Board had delayed the conduction of the test
The managers of two coaching classes have been detained by the police
for their alleged connection in the paper leak scam in Lucknow.
The CBSE had decided to conduct the paper at noon instead of at 9:30AM
as scheduled when it had been informed about the paper leak.
The delay had been caused because of the procedure for securing all
test centres throughout the country and to contain the damage caused
by the leak of the paper.
CBSE Chairman Vineet Joshi said that had received a faxed copy of the
leaked question paper from the UP Police's STF early on Sunday. "We
got the fax at 7:30AM. We matched our question paper with the fax we
had received and found that the two papers matched. We immediately
informed all centre about the leak," he said.
He further added that another test will be conducted for students who
were not able to appear for the rescheduled noon test. The tentative
date for this test is May 8 but may be shifted to May 10 due to other
exams being conducted on May 8.
Parents of several students who had appeared for the test on Sunday
have said that it would be unfair if some students are allowed to take
the test a week later.
The leaking of the AIEEE question paper also led to the delaying of
the architecture entrance test, also conducted by the CBSE. The Armed
Forces Medical College (AFMC) had to be also postponed from 2:30PM to
4:30PM as many centres were also holding the AIEEE.
This was also the first time that the AIEEE was also conducted online
but only for a few thousand students.
The Director General of Police in Uttar Pradesh said that the raids
had been conducted in Lucknow, Kanpur and some parts of Bihar in order
to nab those who were responsible for the paper leak.
