Orissa's campus-based radio to go on air

Bhubaneswar: Orissa's first campus-based community radio station (CRS)
at the prestigious Ravenshaw University in Cuttack city will go on air
next week, a senior university official said on Friday.

The radio station, which has successfully completed over six months of
dry run for around 12 hours a day, was originally scheduled to start
its broadcast from April 1 on the occasion of Utkal Divas -- the
state's formation day.

"But it had to be deferred due to unavoidable circumstances. It will
go on air from April 14, coinciding with the Oriya New Year or the
auspicious Bisuv Sankranti," Netajee Abhinandan, chairman of Ravenshaw
Radio 90.4 MHz, said.

The regular broadcast will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on all days and
the repeat broadcast from 10 a.m. to 12 noon the following day, he
said.

The community radio station has a coverage zone of 8-10 km with its
own production and transmission studio, he said.

It would air a mix of information, education and entertainment,
providing a platform to the students for giving expression to their
thoughts, talents and creativity, he said. IANS
