homeless children in primary schools run by it in Delhi, an official
said on Tuesday.
The children, who were admitted Monday, belong to Ummeed Aman Ghar,
functioning under the Centre for Equity Study, a welfare organization
that provides food, shelter and education to Delhi's homeless street
children and night shelter to the destitute.
According to varsity officials, the children have been exempted from
paying any school fee.
"The challenge ahead is to ensure that the students feel comfortable
in the school environment so that they can be integrated fully into
the education process," Vice Chancellor Najeeb Jung said.
Apart from its schools, Jamia also runs mother-child centres in
different parts of the city where education and vocational training
are provided for children and women coming from poor financial
backgrounds. IANS
