DU announces new admissions guidelines

New Delhi: The Delhi University (DU) has announced the new admission guidelines in accordance with the changes that had been made to this year's admission process.

According to the new guidelines, the pre-admission optical magnetic resonance (OMR) forms that had been used for admission previously have been done away with. The university will now announce cutoffs on the basis of past experience and this year's board examination results.

Also, DU aspirants will get an extra day after the first cutoff list has been announced for admissions and submission of fees to colleges.

The new admission procedure is being touted as being more student friendly and convenient. Unlike the procedure in previous years, students will not get four days instead of three to seek admissions to colleges after the announcement of the cutoff. Also, there would be five cutoff lists unlike the four previously.

The new guidelines have been issued for admission to undergraduate courses at the university. DU has further announced that the admission forms for the sports and extra-curricular activities category will be sold at the respective colleges from the date of announcement of the second cutoff list.

The university has not only done away with the pre admission forms at both the university and college levels but has also decided to admit all students whose marks meet the cutoff lists, instead of on a first-come-first-serve-basis.

The additional eligibility criteria for courses such as additional subject requirements and percentage deduction or relaxation will have to be submitted by colleges along with the justification by May 9. These will then be published in the university information bulletin.

Colleges will also be allowed to publish their own prospectus providing information regarding colleges, courses offered, fee structure. Extra-curricular activities, etc. It has also been made mandatory by the university to include information on 'additional eligibility' along with its justification.

Students who wish to cancel their admission in one college and migrate to another one of their choice after the declaration of a subsequent cutoff list will be allowed to do so and the college will immediately return their documents and refund their fees within 24 hours.

The admission guidelines, however, have remain unchanged for the reserved categories of scheduled castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), persons with disabilities, children of war widows and Jammu and Kashmir migrants.
