Aligarh: The Department of Geology at the Aligarh Muslim University organized a three-day Seminar on 'Climate Change and Sustainable Development in Indian Perspective' on the occasion of Earth Day.
Inaugurating the Seminar, AMU Vice Chancellor P. K. Abdul Azis said that the depletion of climate change is a part of larger challenges of sustainable development.
He appreciated the efforts of Geology faculty members to bring 2.5 crore rupees from different funding agencies for their research projects.
He further added that a large number of students and research scholars were appointed by the Geological Survey of India, ONGC and other agencies. He saluted the boys and girls for earning the distinction.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Department of Geology, Dr. Shadab Khursheed in his welcome address said that the department was celebrating the Earth Day for the first time for three days with the participation of students and earth scientists.
He said that the students of Geology have been placed in various government and non-government organizations and fifteen students have joined their services in Geological Survey of India, ONGC, PRL, IITs etc.
The faculty members of the department also placed an excellent record in the field of research and development. Out of eighteen teachers, fifteen have got research projects from DST, UGC and other funding agencies, he added.
Professor G. S. Gill, Chairman, Department of Geology at Punjab University said that AMU is playing a very important role in promotion of science and had a good academic record and teachers and research scholars are doing excellent job in the field of Geology.
AMU Proctor, Prof. Mujahid Beg said that he is trying to fill up the gap between students and the University administration. He is contacting students at their halls of residence.
Prof. Mahshar Raza proposed the vote of thanks.
On the occasion the AMU Vice Chancellor felicitated the students and teachers for their contributions to academic excellence.
